Small Handy

Small tonnage in Pacific market this week keeps the same trend as last week. Almost vessel  from 7,000 dwt to 10,000 dwt got idea low USD 20pmt from Chtrs but Owrns prefered mid USD 20pmt. One vessel dwt 18,000 is fixed at USD 13.5pmt for flyash in bulk from Vinh Tan to Mariveles. Besides, 6,000 mt urea in bulk ex from Bintulu to Bangkok is fixed usd 19.75 pmt. In addition, one chtrs would like to find vessel around dwt 8,000-10,000 to try period with their offer around USD 4,000 to USD 5,000.

Handysize

For handy segment, Sources spoke of a continuation of the week’s theme with limited fresh enquiry across the Continent and the Mediterranean and an air of negativity for Owners of prompt tonnage.  With the hangover of celebrations, it was also a quiet day across the US markets with action expected to return next week with sources speaking of limited tonnage availability at present. The South Atlantic was said to have mixed feelings with some prompt tonnage feeling pressure as charterers reduce ideas.

Tonnage levels in South East Asia and the Australian coast were said to have reduced in recent days but a lack of activity has kept levels stable for now. Some sources felt that improvements could be on the horizon and some spoke of an underlying interest from charterers to take tonnage for multiple legs or period. Dwt 22,000 was rated mid $8,000 for a trip from SEA to Japan and Dwt 28,000 was exchanged around $10,000 for a short trip within Pacific.

Supramax

The Atlantic areas showed a positive trend throughout the week. The Mediterranean and Continent saw rates around $15,350 by the end of the week. Reports indicated that charterers rated a Supramax open in the Marmara Sea at $18,000 for a trip with grain to the fronthaul direction. In contrast, the US Gulf and ECSA experienced a downturn with fewer cargoes being traded. In Asia, the market demonstrated a downtrend with some noticeable drop on hire rates. A 63,000 dwt vessel open in Cebu was fixed onsubs for one trip from East Kali to China at $16,000. Charterers rated a 58,000 dwt vessel open in South China at $13,000 for a trip from Vietnam to Japan with wood pellet. Another 56,000 dwt vessel rated at $14,500 passing Singapore for an inner SEA trip. The China/Feast market reported stability in both cargo availability and hire rates. Charterers rated a 57,000 dwt vessel at $12,500 delivery CJK for a trip to Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, an Ultramax open in Bohai Bay was rated at $14,000 for a trip to the WCI/PG range.

The Indian market remained stable in the West Coast and PG range. Reports indicated that an 53,000 DWT open in PG was rated at $15,000 for a trip via PG to Male and $14,000 for a trip to South East Asia. In East Coast India, 57,000 dwt vessel was rated at $12,500 for a trip from East Coast India to China with iron ore.
