1. Small Handy

The small tonnage market has shown positive activity this week after a quiet period. Overall, the market sentiment appears more bullish, with noticeable improvements in the offers being traded. Rumors suggested that a 10,000 DWT vessel was booked at low $6,000 for a short trip from the Philippines to China. Operators remain active in exploring short-term period charter opportunities for smaller tonnages, indicating a positive outlook. However, a quieter week is anticipated ahead due to extended holidays in several major Asian countries.

2. Handysize

The Continent and Mediterranean Handysize markets maintained positive momentum, with rates edging slightly above previous levels, reflecting a more supported market environment. Conversely, the South Atlantic continues to face challenges due to limited fresh inquiries and minimal activity. In the U.S. Gulf, the market also exhibited subdued conditions, showing signs of weakening support.

According to market reports, the Tomini Mistral (39,099 DWT, 2016) open Tyne 5 October was placed on subjects, though specific details were not disclosed. The Bliss (35,278 DWT, 2007) open Tampa 26 September was placed on subjects for a voyage from the Mississippi River to East Coast Mexico with grains at $14,250. In the Pacific, activity remained robust, with sentiment staying optimistic. Tonnage availability was tight, and cargo volumes were healthy. With China’s upcoming holidays next week, positive sentiment is expected to continue. The Adventure (34,487 DWT, 2019) open Kwangyang 26/28 September was fixed for a trip to the Continent at $15,000, while the Ocean Gold (32,317 DWT, 2006) open Donghae 26/28 September was reported fixed for a voyage to Taiwan around $14,000. On the period market, the Jin Rui 82 (35,169 DWT, 2012) open Sriracha 28/30 September was placed on subjects for 10-12 months at $13,250.

3. Supramax
In the Atlantic, the market continued to experience downward pressure due to limited fresh inquiries. The SSI Majesty (55,694 DWT, 2010) was reportedly fixed at $21,000 basis delivery SW Pass for a trip with coal to Egypt. Similarly, the Scorpio Confidence (63,215 DWT, 2020) was fixed at $22,500, basis delivery SW Pass, for a trip to the East Mediterranean with coal.

In Asia, positive sentiment persisted with increased inquiries as the Chinese holiday season approached. The Jin Shun (53,350 DWT, 2007) open Bahodopi was fixed for a trip via Indonesia, redelivery China at $21,000. The Agia Eirini Force (55,624 DWT, 2008) open Magdalla was fixed basis delivery Kandla at $10,000 for a trip redelivery China-Korea with salt. The Jahan Brothers II (56,014 DWT, 2008) open Manila was fixed for a trip with coal via Indonesia, redelivery Bangladesh at $19,000.
