1. Small Handy:
The small tonnage market in the Pacific maintained a steady trend this week. Vessels ranging from 6,000 to 12,000 dwt are being offered at rates between the mid $10 pmt to low $30 pmt. One 11,000 dwt vessel was fixed for silica sands at mid $10 pmt, while another 10,000 dwt vessel was fixed with clinker at low $20 pmt. Fertilizers remain a popular cargo this week, with 10,000 mts of bagged fertilizers fixed from China to Malaysia at low $30 pmt. Additionally, several small fertilizer bulk parcels from South China to South Vietnam are still seeking suitable vessels.
2. Handysize:
Last Friday, in the Continent and Mediterranean regions, there wasn’t much new demand in the Mediterranean, but the Continent was seeing some positive growth. However, rates were staying stable.
The U.S. Gulf market was still strong with positive outlooks, though rates had mostly stayed steady.
In the South Atlantic, the market outlook had improved as there were fewer available ships, leading to a small increase in rates compared to previous numbers.
In Asia, there were some reports of a slight increase in available ships, but market sentiment was starting to weaken. Still, healthy cargo volumes are keeping rates stable. In the Asian region, 28k DWT vessels were being paid around USD 9,000-10,500 dop.
3. Supramax:
The Supramax segment remained under pressure throughout last week, as fresh inquiries were limited across various regions. In the Atlantic, the MV Blue Diamond (53,538 dwt, 2008), which was open in Freetown, was fixed on a delivery basis to the Amazon for a 2/3 laden leg at $13,750. In Asia, a 63,000 dwt vessel was fixed from Indonesia for a trip via Australia, with redelivery in the Arabian Gulf at $18,000. Additionally, a 54,000 dwt vessel open in Chittagong at the end of October was fixed for a trip to the Mediterranean, with delivery in Singapore at $15,000. The MV Bulk Independence (56,548 dwt, 2008), open in Vung Tau, was on subjects for a trip via Indonesia with redelivery in South Vietnam at $14,000.
