Small Handy

We have experienced a well-balanced week for small tonnage in Pacific market with proper rates being traded across the region. Rumour had that about 5,000 tons bagged rice was traded at low 30s pmt level for a short trip within South East Asia, roughly 9,000 tons Urea was traded at mid 20s pmt for a similar route. With more and more cargoes volume being traded at close date in the region, we can expect good offers for spot tonnages in the upcoming week.

Handysize
The handy sector experienced a quiet week across both Atlantic and Pacific basins with limited activites and fixtures reported. In the Continent-Mediterranean fresh demand was suggested by some sources but the rise in available vessels kept rates slightly below previous level. The US Gulf and South Atlantic saw a persistent negative sentiment as the increase in available tonnage exerted downward pressure on rates. According to market report, the Manta Zuhal dwt 37,313 was reported fixed for a trip from Canakkale to West Mediterranean with grains at approximately $9,000. A 37,000 dwt vessel was recently secured for s trip from Casablanca via Algeria to the Caribbean at a rate of $12,500 with no additional details available. The Asian market also remained slow, with minimal fixing activity, charterers have been making bids lower than previously agreed terms. Dwt 24,000-28,000 charterer rated around $7,000 for a trip to North bound while owner aim more and wait till next week to see better levels.

Supramax
The Atlantic remained less active throughout the week. Heard 64,000 DWT open Brazil rated USD 18,750 for trip to Med with grains. It’s indicated that 56,000 DWT open USG rated at $20,000 for a trip via US to China.In Asia, the market demonstrated with significant drop and less active on fresh enquiries. A 56,000 DWT open Singgapore was fixed at $12,000 for trip via Indo to Xiamen. Charterers rate 63,000 DWT open Hongkong $11,000 for trip via East Kalimantan to North China. Charterers rated 53,000 DWT open Guangzhou $10,000 for trip to Malaysia with clinker.The China/Feast market reported stability in both cargo availability and hire rates. Charterers fixed a 58,000 DWT at $13,000 delivery CJK for a trip to PG with general cargo/break-bulk cargo. Meanwhile, a 57,000 DWT open Bohai Bay was rated $10,500 for trip to Weda Bay.The Indian and PG market still weak that less cargo being traded. Reports indicated that an 64,000 DWT open Mumbai was rated at $11,500 for a coastal trip. While a 58,000 DWT fixed via PG to WCI at $11,000 with limestone. In East Coast India, 58,000 DWT was fixed at $8,000 for a trip from Indo to China with coal
