1.Small Handy
The Small Handy segment in the Pacific market has shown improvement this week. In Southeast Asia, vessels ranging from 16,000 to 20,000 DWT have been fixed at freight rates between USD 6,000 and USD 7,000 for regional shipments. A 6,000 DWT vessel was fixed for a clinker shipment from Cam Pha to Kuching at USD 16 PMT. The freight rate for Ferro Nickel shipments from Indonesia to China remains in the low-to-mid USD 20 PMT range. In the Indian – PG market, a 12,000 DWT vessel was fixed at USD 7,000 for a scrap shipment from Japan to India, which is considered a favorable rate for smaller tonnage in the current market conditions. Additionally, Feldspar shipments from Lumut to Chittagong are aiming for USD 13.5 PMT, while bagged rice exports from Kolkata to Bangladesh are targeting rates in the low USD 20 PMT range.
2. Handysize
The market remained subdued today, with the BHSI inching up by 5 points to 569, while the 7TC average rose by USD 90, reaching USD 10,235. Freight rates in the Continent and Mediterranean showed signs of improvement, whereas the South Atlantic and U.S. Gulf markets remained sluggish with minimal movement. Activity in the Asian market was also slow, though overall market sentiment remained optimistic.A 23,000 DWT vessel was reportedly fixed at around USD 7,000 per day in the Southeast Asia region. Meanwhile, the upcoming Ramadan holiday is contributing to a quieter market across Asia.
3. Supramax
The maritime market saw a slight improvement in sentiment last week, though a cautious approach remained prevalent. Reports suggested better rates emerging from the U.S. Gulf for transatlantic voyages, yet no confirmed fixtures were recorded. In Asia, some sources indicated that the market might have bottomed out, with vessel owners becoming more optimistic in their pricing expectations. In the Atlantic, MV Doric Trident (57,859 DWT, 2016) was reportedly fixed for a voyage from Amsterdam to the Far East on 15 March at approximately USD 15,000, though further details were not disclosed. Meanwhile, MV Ocean Azalea (63,083 DWT, 2015) secured a Las Palmas to Paradip voyage via COGH for USD 14,000, having been open in the UK. In the Pacific, MV Ocean Ambitious (63,577 DWT, 2016) was heard to have fixed a trip from South Kalimantan to West Coast India at USD 18,000. MV Fu Xing 21 (56,773 DWT, 2011) is reportedly on subjects for a Philippines to China voyage at approximately USD 7,000, with MV Dai Xiang, which opened in Zhoushan on 12 March. Additionally, MV Hong Long Hai Sheng (56,501 DWT, 2013) is on subjects at USD 12,000 for a trip from East Kalimantan to China.
