  1. Small Handy

The market for small tonnages in the Pacific has remained consistent with last week’s trend. Vessels ranging from 10,000 to 13,000 dwt are being offered at around $5,000 to $6,000 for one TCT – 2 lls. A 13,000 dwt vessel was fixed at a rate of low mid $5,000 for a 3-4 month period in the PG-Japan trade. Additionally, a 10,000 dwt vessel was fixed with 8,000 mts of clinker in bulk from Tarjun to Kuching at low $20s pmt. Small handy sizes were also fixed at mid 10’s.

  1. Handysize

The Atlantic market finished the week without significant sentiment changes from the previous day, remaining highly positional. The Tomini Solano (38,835 dwt, 2016) open in Southwest Pass was fixed for a petcoke run from the US Gulf to North Brazil at mid $15,000s with Clipper. From the Continent, the Yuka D (34,268 dwt, 2011) was linked to NMC, delivering at La Pallice for a trip to the North Continent at mid $11,000s. The Asian market ended the week on a soft note, with many suggesting a need for new inquiries from both the north and south. The TC average finished the week down $36 at $13,660. In Asia, it was reported that a 28,000 dwt vessel open in Chittagong was offered at USD 10,000 for a cargo from East Coast India to West Coast India. A 23,000 dwt vessel was offered at USD 7,000 for a short period charter within the PG-Japan range.

  1. Supramax

The Atlantic areas showed a positive trend throughout the week. Reports indicated that charterers rated a Supramax open in the Marmara Sea at $22,900 for a trip with grain to the India. In contrast, the US Gulf and ECSA experienced a downturn with fewer cargoes being traded.

In Asia, the market demonstrated positive trend with some noticeable increase on hire rates. A 63,000 dwt vessel open in Philippines was rated $18,500 for one trip from East Kali to China. Charterers rated a 58,000 DWT open in South China at $16,000 for a trip from Vietnam to Bangladesh with clinker. Another 56,000 fixed at $15,500 passing Singapore for an inner SEA trip and $17,000 for trip to India.

The China/Feast market reported stability in both cargo availability and hire rates. Charterers rated a 55,000 DWT at $14,000 delivery CJK for a trip to Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, a 57,000 DWT open CJK was rated $15,500 for trip to Med

The Indian market less active in the West Coast and PG range. Reports indicated that an 53,000 DWT open in Kandla was rated at $12,250 for a trip via PG to South China. While a 63,000 DWT fixed salt cargo via WCI to China at $15,500. In East Coast India, 56,000 DWT was fixed at $13,500 for a trip from East Coast India to China with iron ore.
