Small Handy:
The Asian market was quieter compared to last week. Vessels of 10,000–13,000 DWT were aiming around USD 6,000–7,000 for one TCT, with 13,000 DWT ships fixing similar levels from Thailand to Japan. Steel cargoes ex South China to Singapore were also discussed at around the same rate for 12,000 DWT units. Meanwhile, PKE ex Indonesia to South China was fixed on a 13,000 DWT vessel at low USD 20 pmt, and corn ex Yangon to Davao was done at high USD 20 pmt. Freight levels still vary significantly depending on cargo type and route. In India, scrap cargoes remain stable, with a 12,000 DWT vessel fixed from Jurong to ECI at low USD 30 pmt, while bagged rice ex ECI to Bangladesh was quoted around low USD 20 pmt. The freight market in this area is expected to remain stable into next week.
Handysize:
The Handysize segment experienced a quiet week with market sentiment remaining unchanged. In the Continent and Mediterranean, fresh demand and increased activity led to slightly firmer rates. The South Atlantic remained balanced, while the U.S. Gulf saw softer sentiment due to an expanding tonnage list weighing on rates. Market reports indicated the Lady Andriane (34,845 DWT, 2020) was fixed for a trip from Rotterdam to Egypt (Med) with grains at USD 18,500 for 3–6 October. Another Handysize vessel was reported fixed for a grains trip from Houston to Veracruz at USD 22,500, though further details were unavailable. In Asia, activity remained limited due to regional holidays. The Ohirayama (40,247 DWT, 2024) was heard fixed from Kwinana, Australia to the Philippines on 10 October at USD 18,000. For intra-Pacific short trips, vessels around 28,000 DWT were reported at USD 7,000–8,000.
Supramax:
The Atlantic Supramax market saw positional imbalances, with limited supply in the Continent but weakening demand elsewhere. In the U.S. Gulf, discussions revolved around lower rates, though confirmed fixtures were scarce. Activity in Asia stayed muted due to ongoing holidays and is expected to remain so next week. In the Atlantic, the Mv Spring Sky (61,413 DWT, 2014), open in Townsville, was reported fixed for a trip from East Australia to Japan at USD 16,000 plus a ballast bonus of USD 250,000. In the Pacific, the Mv Explorer Europe (61,447 DWT, 2012) was fixed delivery Koh Sichang for a trip via Indonesia to China at USD 11,500. Another 57,000 DWT unit was heard fixed basis Singapore delivery for a similar route at USD 14,000.
